Storm Code of Conduct - What was Behind it

Storm Code of Conduct                                       Mindy's Behaviors
All Storm team members are prohibited from
entering into contracts, agreements or to make
commitments for the team, its members or its
resources without permission from the owner or an
owner representative (if designated).

Storm team members are prohibited from operating
outside of given boundaries.  For instance, any
Storm team member that has been given
parameters regarding an activity, task or project
must adhere to the parameters unless modifications
or changes are reviewed and agreed upon with the
owner or owner representative prior to the activity,
task or project.

Storm team members are prohibited from lying to
other Storm team members concerning the team or
its members.

Storm team members are prohibited from stealing
from the Storm team, coaches or staff.

Personal relationships between team members that
threaten the team’s operations will be prohibited.

Coach’s are prohibited from talking about players,
their performance, their role on the team or likely
role on the team or any other player information or
information about players with, or in front of, other
team members.

No member of the Storm will encourage, egg on,
cheer on or otherwise attempt to influence another
member to strike, fight with, verbally abuse,
physically assault or threaten any other member of
the team, referee, medical profession, fan, or any
other person while participating in an team event or
while they are a member of the team.

In the case that an optional collection is being
requested, it is prohibited to post the names of
participating team members.

Team members are prohibited from interfering with,
circumventing, or in any way disrupting the
operations, administration, logistics or marketing of
the team.

Only Storm team members in good standing may
participate in the team.  Good standing is defined
as not having engaged in prohibited activity and
being current with any financial obligations.  Players
not in good standing due to financial obligations
can regain their status by getting current with their
financial obligations.  Players not in good standing
due to engagement in a prohibited activity may
regain their status the following season.  Player
fees are not refundable to team members not in
good standing.
This one was mostly triggered from some missteps
that luckily didn’t have really bad impacts.  The
latest one I observed with malicious intent was this
June 2007 when Mindy scheduled a beer bust at
Sidekicks, using the Storm’s name and representing
herself as a Storm player, with the intent of keeping
the money (note that this was cancelled before it
happened).  This is the only one I found out about,
there may have been others where she used the
Storm’s name for her and her clique’s benefit.  If
you were a player in 2007 and did not know about
the beer bust at Sidekicks in July (not everyone was
told) you should be deeply offended with this one.

This one really bothered me because Mindy
selfishly hurt the players and did exactly what I said
not to do.  I told the players I would not discount
tickets so that they would have the best ability to
sell tickets at full face value and recoup their player
fees.  I said this in January, 2006.  Just before the
Texas Hold “em tournament Mindy was organizing,
she asked me for a bunch of tickets to be given
away as the door prize to all the participants.  I said
no – I had to committed to NOT discounting (free is
a pretty big discount!) the tickets to keep their value
up so that the players could sell them.  I made
several other suggestions for the door prizes.
Mindy went around me, gathered tickets from
players who had extras and gave them away as
door prizes. If you think about it, the people who
came to the Texas Hold’Em tournament were family
and friends of the players – prime targets for ticket
sales.  Ticket sales that could have helped the
players.

LOL.  Way too many to list or to even remember.  A
couple of the heavy hitter of late that are easily
proven to be lies:  Mindy said that she asked to see
the 2007 “actuals” against the budget and I
refused.  I have never refused and sent out two
emails to the whole team, one in July and then I re-
sent that email a couple months later to as a
reminder where I volunteered to show them anyone
that wanted to see.  Mindy did not take me up on
this offer.  So anything Mindy says about the
actuals for 2007 is not based on fact, because she
doesn’t have them.  Another example:  she also
recently lied about me overcharging the players last
year because of something she selectively (key
word there) pulled out of the IWFL operating
documents.  She saw one fee (of many) and it was
less than what we had budgeted for 2007 for ALL
league expenses and she advertised that as
evidence that I had over charged the players.  It’s
like your roommate telling you utilities are going to
run about $100 a month and then you see the
cable bill and its only $10, and you yell at your
roommate for overcharging you on utilities.

When the 2006 financial model was created for the
Storm, of which Mindy played a lead role, I
committed to about $5K to the budget with the
caveat that all ticket sales at the gate, merchandise
and concessions would come back to the team.
Mindy went to great lengths to have her brother
bring merchandise (the media guide) into the
stadium and sell it separately from the other
merchandise and then she kept the money.  It wasn’
t until she wanted to play again in 2007 that she
turned the money in.

Not much more you can say here.  Obviously Mindy’
s mode of operation is to forge very close, personal
relationships with the head coaches.  I’ve gotten a
lot of comments and complaints about favoritism
and such, so we made this rule.

Due to Mindy’s role in the coach’s lives, she has
had information on what is thought of the players.
She has shared this “insider” information to other
players, causing ill feelings.  The player being
talked about was upset and complained, so we
added this rule to try to keep this type of gossip to a
minimum.

In Chicago, after the game we were invited to the
Force’s after game party.  With Force players and
fans all around, as well as other bar patrons, Mindy
was one of two Storm players to egg on a third
Storm player to start a fight.

At the end of the 2006 season there was a lot of
discontent with the coaching staff and I had
received a lot of complaints and comments.  Mindy
started a collection for Plaza gift certificates for gifts
for the coach’s.  I got complaints that it was self
serving since she dated the head coach, she would
likely be a beneficiary of such a gift.  I let it go. The
amount of the contributions for the gifts were not
meeting Mindy’s goal.  I believe players just didn’t
want to participate due to the ill-feelings going
around about the coaching staff and that it was
viewed as self serving for her.  Mindy’s solution was
to post the names of all the players who had
contributed on the team discussion board.  I got
complaints about that since contributing to the fund
was voluntary, it shouldn’t be made public who
participated.  So for 2008 – this rule was put in
place.

Similar to the “lie” section above, there are too
many things to name here.  A lot of what has
already been listed falls into this category also.
One thing that could be mentioned that gives a
good view into Mindy’s character is how she
encouraged team members not to buy merchandise
and even approached retired veterans to not buy
tickets from me to minimize the revenues I needed
to recoup the thousands of dollars put up (again) in
2007.

Obviously she should have never been allowed to
play in 2007 and would not be allowed back in 2008.
