Diatribe
Mindy continues report that the Storm's license was revoked and proudly sites the
reasons why as being a series of allegations she took to the league including the
assertion that we played a game with the St. Louis Slam in 2007. In reality we
practiced with St. Louis prior to our games starting and at the end of the practice we
scrimmaged. No uniforms, scoreboard, officials, down tracking, special teams or
anything commonly associated with a game. Yet, Mindy reported this as a "game"
to the league.
Based on my "sent box" and "IWFL Folder" (there is ALOT more that went on, but to
hit the highlights):
1. Early in the 2007, I challenged the league on several points concerning
deficiencies in their operations that costed me significant amounts of money.
2. We did not come to a resolution and I noted that I would pursue further after the
season.
3. Deficiencies and concerns mounted in 2007 culminating in the Storm losing out
on our last home game and how the playoffs were handled.
4. On September 4 I notified the IWFL executive council that unless I heard from
them within 24 hours on an outstanding issue, I would seek a license for 2008 from
an alternate supplier.
5. On September 5, having received no response from the IWFL, I signed up with
the NWFA for the 2008 season.
6. On September 11 I advised the IWFL that I wished to pursue arbitration for the
monies I felt were due to me.
7. On September 12 I received an email from the IWFL stating "your license was not
renewed".
8. On September 13, having complete the transaction with the NWFA, I announced
to the team the move explaining the benefits to the players as such:
(From an email to the team.....)
In addition to working on the revenue side of the equation for the 2008 Storm
season, by starting our fund raising much earlier, I’ve also been looking at the cost
side of things. It seems like we’ve squeezed so much out of the expense side, there’
s really only one big item to tackle (no pun intended) – travel.
Last year we traveled over 4,000 miles per person, for the drivers, it was about 65
hours in travel time. Most of us burned three (3) vacation days. Assuming half the
team flew to the three furthest games, I believe we spent over $20,000 on travel *.
Based on the IWFL midwest footprint and the upcoming Tier 1 and Tier 2 split (the
IWFL is essentially splitting the league into two leagues for scheduling purposes), I
fear that travel for the midwest teams in 2008 in the IWFL will increase. It’s hard to
know for sure until all the teams are in, but based on the best information we have,
this seems very likely.
Therefore, I have moved the Kansas City Storm to the National Women’s Football
Association (NWFA). This league has guaranteed us no more than an eight (8) hour
trip to any regular season game. Currently, teams within the midwest include
(times approximate): Omaha (3 hours), St. Louis (4 hours) and Oklahoma City (5
hours).
Assuming we play these teams and one other team about eight (8) hours away, our
travel mileage will be around 1500 miles, travel time around 40 – BOTH DOWN OVER
60% from the 2007 IWFL schedule !!!!!!!
With three trips being candidates for one day trips, hotel expenses will also be
significantly lowered.
This represents a huge cost, time, hassle and vacation day savings.
For those that played with the Krunch, you’re familiar with the league. I must say
that in the past four years, this league has become very price competitive and very
flexible. They are very excited to have a Kansas City team back.
Check out the Storm website, I’ve updated it with this announcement.
