Our Year in Review


April 26 - Storm vs. Oklahoma Lightning (0-67)  Safety and Self-
Defense/Breast Cancer Awareness.  Kelsey Smith Foundation presented
a FREE safety/self defense seminar prior to the Storm's game.  Breast
Cancer informational materials were also available to all Storm fans.

April 19 - Season Opener Kansas City 20-Memphis 16 - The
Kansas City Storm played host to other area sports women and
women's teams by sponsoring "A Celebration of Women in Sport in
Kansas City."  Special guest was Marian Washington, former KU
women’s basketball coach and athletic director.

The event began with a complimentary tailgate at nearby Bumgarner Park
afterward, exhibits of area sports women and teams were open at the
stadium.

March 13 - Storm supports WIN at Hoops and Heels Big 12 Event

March 7 - Beer Bust and Texas Hold 'em Tournament, Side Pockets,
Olathe

February 16-17 - Storm Camp - an extensive weekend of two-a-day
practices and team building activities.  Hard work but great fun!

February 10 - Pro Bowl at Out of Bounds

February 1 - Beer Bust and Texas Hold 'em Tournament, Side Pockets,
Bonner Springs.

February 1 - Storm volunteered at WIN's for KC Annual Women's
Sport Awards Celebration.

January 26 - Storm players signed autographs at Kemper Arena for the
UMKC Kangaroos men and women's basketball games.

January 18 - Beer Bust and Auction - Tootsies on Main

January 5 - First official practice of the 2008 season!  2008 began with
many improvements including:  

* Rookie Camp was held this fall.
* December chalk talks were held for the whole team.
* Complimentary YMCA passes have been made available to players to
workout on their own.
* A DVD with a printable play book and recordings of the chalk talks
has been created for the players.
* A personal trainer,
Erica Taylor, has been added to the coaching staff
and is available at every practice.
* Medical personnel are available at every practice.
* The team is starting the season off with a strength and conditioning
class created especially for the Storm, and led by a professional, certified
personal trainer,
Sumya Anani.  The class takes advantage of the
tremendous training facility at Johnson County Community College.
* The team secured significantly better practice locations and facilities.  
The community center we're in is much nicer than our gym last year and
offers more room for practice.  The JCCC facility is top notch.    
* We've added turf field practices during the winter months.
* We've reduced the travel distance to our out of town games.

December 18 - The Storm teamed up with Eddie Kennison of the
Chiefs to Fight Lupus.  Kansas City Storm players were celebrity sports
bartenders Tuesday night, December 18, at the
World's Largest Office
Party sponsored by KUDL and benefiting the Eddie Kennison
Foundation.  Over 50 celebrity bartenders including the Chiefs, Royals
and Storm players were on hand help raise money for Lupus research.

December 9 - Beer Bust - Watched the Chiefs and the Broncos with
the Storm at Out of Bounds.

November 30 - Beer Bust - Tootsies on Main.

November 23 - Thanksgiving Day morning.  Storm team members and
mascot Stormie team with the Kansas City Sports Commission at the
annual Thanksgiving Day Run at the Sprint campus.

November 18 - End of Rookie Camp Party - McCoys in Westport.

November 11 - 2008 Player Informational Meeting - Gates and Sons

November 9 - Beer Bust at Sidepockets in Bonner Springs.

November 5-6 - Owner Nance Wernes attends the national, "Marketing
Women's Sports" conference put on by Women's Sports Cares.

October 20 - Kansas City Women's Extreme Sports Challenge at
Grinders in the Crossroads.  The first event put on by the newly formed
Kansas City Women's Sports Association.  This event featured the
Kansas City Storm battling the Kansas City Jazz Rugby Club and the
Kansas City Roller Warriors.  Emcee Missy Koonce of Bar Natasha  
hosted the series of serious and not so serious events designed entertain
and amaze our fans!  Entertainment provided by the Sunshine Destroyers.

October 19 - The Storm supports the 2007 Butterfly Gala benefiting the
Spofford home for kids.

October 18 - The Storm is recognized for it's involvement by WIN for
KC at it's annual reception at the Sprint Center Founder's Club.  

October 7 - The Storm teams up with the KC Jazz and the KC
Warriors at Out in Westport to promote their upcoming event - The
Kansas City Women's Extreme Sports Challenge.

October 5 - The Storm signs autographs before the Wizards game at
Arrowhead Stadium.

October 5 - The Storm donates a 2008 season ticket package and
jersey for the Women With One Voice charity event.

September 30 - Rookies celebrate half way point of rookie camp at
after camp Gates BBQ.

September 15 - The Storm signs autographs before the Wizards game
at Arrowhead Stadium.

September 13 - The Storm announces it has joined the National
Women's Football Association.

September 8 - Rookie Camp Begins.

August 5 - The Kansas City Storm becomes a founding member of the
Kansas City Women's Sports Association.
