April 19 - A Celebration of KC Women in Sports

The Kansas City Storm played host to other area sports women and
women's teams by sponsoring "A Celebration of Women in Sport in
Kansas City."   

Special guest was
Marian Washington, former KU women’s
basketball coach and athletic director.

A complimentary tailgate at nearby
Bumgarner Park was sponsored

Miller.  Exhibits of area sports women and teams were open prior
to the game, sponsored by
Dicks Sporting Goods.  

Storm's Defense Fends Off the Belles 20-16

The Storm's defense held off a potent Belle attack late in the fourth quarter
to secure a victory for the Storm in front of a record crowd at Blue
Springs High School.  Memphis drove to Kansas City's one yard line
before being denied by the Storm defense with seconds left to play.  Mark
Ferguson, Defensive Coordinator had this to say, "The Storm found its
heart tonight!  They came together in the perfect culmination of spirit,
drive, and determination; they know what it takes to win as a team."
Offensive Coordinator Tim Kestermont remarked "It's good to kneel to
end the game!"

Larisha Graves led of the Storm scoring with a rushing touchdown in the
second quarter and the extra point was added by kicker Abby Vestal.  In
the third quarter, the Storm scored again when quarterback Molly
Lonergan connected with wide receiver Vannezza Villegas for a
touchdown and Vestal added the extra point.  The victory was seal in the
fourth quarter with a scamper around the left end by Ashley Randle.   

The Storm played host to other area women's sport teams and sport
women and special guest Marian Washington, KU head women's
basketball coach for over 30 years was on hand for the coin toss.   

This week's Offensive player of the week was Larisha Graves and Co-
Defensive Players of the game were Leilani Denney and Robyn Johnson.



April 26 - Safety and Self-Defense/Breast Cancer Awareness

Kelsey Smith Foundation presented a FREE safety/self defense
seminar beginning at 5:30pm.  Breast Cancer information and materials
were available to all Storm fans.  

The Storm ran into tough competition Saturday night and fell to the
Oklahoma Lightning 0-67.  The Storm held tough the first half going into
halftime down only 0-22 after a late second quarter touchdown by the
Lightning.  Ashley "Wind" Randle led all Storm rushers.  Vannezza Villegas
recovered a fumble during her inaugural defensive outing.  Offensive
player of the week honors went to Kara Lundquist for outstanding line
play.

Jennifer "Princess" Landers pulled down an interception and recovered a
Leanne Harakas forced fumble to earn defensive player of the game.

June 7 - Domestic Violence Support and Awareness

A free treat at the concessions stand awaits all fans contributing to the
Rose Brooks Center.   Suggestions for June include band-aids,
sunscreen, bug-bite lotion and repellant, Neosporin, and antiseptic
creams.  Information and materials will be available to all Storm fans.


June 14 - The Storm goes Green AND Collects for Harvesters

Bring old cell phones, printer cartridges, tennis shoes (yes tennis
shoes!) to be recycled or items for Harvesters to receive free Storm
Thunder Sticks!
